What: A club on campus that

enhances the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Events:

What's Available: You can get matched with your own

buddy or become an associate member and help out with events. If you can join, you just have 

to call your buddy twice a week and hang out with them twice a

 month. An event will be planned by Best Buddies once a month.

What: Center for Autism and Related Disorders. 

A program that aids children with autism and provides support for their parents. 

Diagnoses children and refers parents to specialists for further services.

  • Public Awareness and Community Outreach

What: Counseling Outreach Peer Education Group. 

Facilitates a connection between UM students and the counseling center.

Events:

  • National Depression Screening Day
  • Procrastination Seminars
  • Test Anxiety
  • Home for the Holidays (Dealing with dorm life after the holidays)

Also: Need to commit for a year, attend Fall Training, presentations, and events

  1. Habitat for Humanity

What: A group of dedicated group of students who commit our 

weekends to bringing affordable housing to people in the greater 

Miami area in partnership with Miami Habitat for Humanity.

Events: Builds scheduled throughout the school year on Saturdays.

Builds:

  • No experience necessary
  • Six builds per semester
  • We meet at 6:45am at Stanford Circle on build-days and return around 3:30
  • Car-pool
  • Work includes landscaping, nailing beams, laying linoleum, and all other aspects of building a house

What: A volunteer organization that offers a variety of opportunities to aid

 people in the Miami community, great for many types of volunteering

Events: Weekly service (Feel good Fridays and Saturdays)

What's Available: You can do anything from work with children with autism to help out at a

 soup kitchen! Or you can get involved with the mentorship program for children

What: Our mission is to connect people in need with community resources, strengthen and

 preserve families, and develop and provide services where none exist.

What's Available: You can either become a helpline counselor, which aids residents on the

 phone with issues related to adolescence, culture, religion, or mental illness or help out th

organization in other ways.

Also: Great for psychology experience and looks good on your resume!

What: Project Sunshine is a nonprofit organization that provides free educational, recreational, and social programs to children facing medical challenges and their families.
Volunteers provide arts and crafts, tutoring, reading, special events and other activities for the children and families in hospitals.
